Why twilight works

City lights create instant contrast and curb appeal. For terraces and roof decks, blue hour sells the lifestyle—string lights, fire tables, skyline sparkle.

Timing & Setup

  • Arrive 45–60 min before sunset; pre-compose exteriors and roof deck.

  • Capture three “looks”: golden hour, deep blue hour, first night with richer contrast.

  • Turn on all practical lights (interior + exterior). Dim to avoid orange hotspots.

Aerials the right way

  • Use Part 107-certified pilots and request LAANC in controlled airspace.

  • Avoid crowds, stay visual line-of-sight, and respect building/park rules.

  • Where drones aren’t permitted, use a nearby overlook, a high floor in an adjacent building, or a tall monopod/mast for a safe “elevated” look.

Must-have twilight frames

  1. Front elevation with warm windows and a blue sky.

  2. Terrace/Roof deck with practicals on (lanterns/string lights).

  3. Context shot (street or water) that places the property in the neighborhood.

  4. Room-with-a-view showing interior glow + skyline through the window.

Delivery & SEO extras

  • Export a hero at 1920×1080 for MLS covers and a 9:16 cut for Reels.

  • Alt-text example: “Twilight photo of Park Slope brownstone with warm window glow and string-lit backyard.”

  • File names: park-slope-brownstone-twilight-backyard.jpg, not IMG_4321.jpg.
